We're building something for the track day enthusiasts, autocross addicts, and drag strip regulars: Hot Laps — a racing telemetry app that turns your iPhone into a performance data logger using nothing but the sensors already in your pocket.
What Is Hot Laps?
Hot Laps uses your iPhone's built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS, and barometer to capture real-time performance data. No OBD dongles, no external GPS units, no extra hardware. Mount your phone, calibrate, and go.
Race Mode
Record full track sessions with live lap timing, a real-time speed readout, and a G-force ball that shows exactly what your car is doing. Set a GPS start/finish line and Hot Laps detects each lap automatically. Your track outline draws itself on a mini map as you drive, and afterward you can review every session with speed traces, G-force charts, and lap-by-lap breakdowns.
Performance Tests
Hot Laps includes a full suite of straight-line and handling tests:
- 0-60 MPH acceleration timing
- Quarter-mile and eighth-mile elapsed time and trap speed
- 60-0 and 100-0 braking time and stopping distance
- Brake fade detection across repeated stops
- Peak lateral G for turning grip measurement
- Body roll, pitch, and squat analysis
- Transition time for slalom and chicane handling
It even calculates estimated horsepower from your quarter-mile trap speed or 0-60 time — no dyno required.
Vehicle Garage
Manage multiple vehicles with full spec sheets including engine, transmission, drivetrain, and curb weight. Log modifications with part numbers and costs, and track maintenance history with service dates and mileage. A built-in vehicle database auto-fills specs for thousands of year/make/model combinations.
Sensor Calibration
A guided calibration system ensures accurate readings before every run. Mount your phone, hold steady for a few seconds, and the app locks in your device orientation using rotation matrix averaging. Real-time stability feedback tells you exactly when you're ready.
Session Analysis
Every session is saved with full telemetry. Review speed-over-distance graphs, longitudinal and lateral G-force charts, elevation profiles, and track maps. Compare your best laps and track improvement over time.
Diagnostics
A built-in sensor dashboard shows the live status of every data source — motion sensors at 50 Hz, GPS lock quality, barometer altitude, and data logging health. Confirm everything is working before you hit the track.
Privacy First
Like all SSETCO apps, Hot Laps stores everything locally on your device. No accounts, no cloud uploads, no tracking. Your performance data stays completely private.
